UNITED New Power Vibe – 25th Anniversary
UNITED New Power Vibe – 25th Anniversary
“Techno is music that precedes movement. It is dance music, solid enough to carry emotions through the dance floor and abstract enough to be a template for ever”. And indeed his breathtaking productions embody this ethos, serving the inherent function of making your body pulse spontaneously while also challenging your brain with its complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions.
Although maybe the word “techno” doesn’t give enough detail about his style, it’s probably the nearest ballpark to whose principles his music adheres – and he is keen to expand the horizons of what people know and expect of the genre. But it’s that sense of his tracks being alive, forever evolving and expanding and increasing in intensity, which gives his music its unique sound and has seen his work crossover into a myriad of different areas of the global electronic music scene.
His music shows you that he’s a producer with more than churning out mindless, functional and dispensable drivel on his mind. There’s a philosophy entrenched in his productions that breathes the very spirit of life and dynamism into them: “My ultimate goal as a producer and musician is to bridge the world of inspiration and physical world to the extent where the listener wouldn’t be able to distinguish between the two. Music has this unique property to communicate deep emotions that are inherently in all of us. We just forgot how to use them, and my search is an attempt to revive those emotions where we all resonate as one.”
Born in Zagreb in the early ‘70s, his career in dance music stretches back the best part of 20 years. He counts a longstanding relationship with Belgium’s legendary Music Man records where he released many singles and albums.
A hypnotic compound of techno and tech-house, further enhanced by the powerful groove and bass lines which characterise the sets of Mladen Tomic, Bosnian DJ and producer, who has wonthe hearts of clubbers across the globe. You will recognize his uncompromising sound and strong energy, which is woven into every one of sets. The carefully selected compositions. The unique production. The strong personal touch, whether in production, the mix or the re-mix. Performances all over Europe (Germany, Spain, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, England, Scotland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Belgium, Croatia, Serbia, Romania…), USA (New York, Miami, Las Vegas, El Paso), Canada (Montreal, Toronto), Colombia(Bogota, Medellin), Mexico (Mexico City, Acapulco), Costa Rica, Guatemala and India (Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai) are testimony of that.
The ever growing list of festivals whose line-up includes Mladen’s name is even more impressive: Miami WMC 2013 and 2014 (US), Soul Tech and Selenic Beach (Mexico), Kazantip (Ukraine), Amsterdam Dance Event (Netherlands), EXIT Festival – Dance Arena 2014 and 2019(Serbia), Sea Dance (Montenegro) amongst many others. Mladen is a resident of Fresh Wave Festival, the biggest music festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
His personal work, including more then 230 original tracks, recognised and supported by both prominent artists and owners of famous record labels such as Dubfire, Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, Monika Kruse, Umek, Popof, Adam Beyer, Stefano Noferini, Joris Voorn and others, have catapulted him to among the best, and opened the doors of the most prestigious clubs and festivals around the world. With a highly acclaimed series of original tracks, production is still the centre of Mladen’s business with regular releases on renowned labels such as Sci + Tec, Suara, Tronic, Terminal M, Octopus, 100% Pure, Deeperfect, Stereo Productions, Definitive Recordings and his own Night Light Records
A member of a Slovenian established deejays, Tomy DeClerque grew up in an environment full of promising development in the sphere of electronic dance music. In front of his eyes the local scene has been turning into a globally acknowledged style of techno music in the hands of artists such as Umek and Valentino Kanzyani. A natural choice for a guy with talent and ambition was to jump the train and Tomy DeClerque has road it ever since.Performing as a deejay in a local venues since he turned seventeen Tomy DeClerque soon realised that making his own production was essential if he wanted his carrier to really take off. He hooked up with his friend Zox to form the Tomy or Zox duo, and their hard work paid off as their My Desire single received some favourable feedback in Spain, Russia and Mexico. However, it was the Music Makes Me Happy hit single that caught the attention of top artists being remixed by the likes of Mainframe and ATCF, and released on several prestigious compilations, such as Ministry Of Sound, DJ Awards at Pacha Ibiza and Blanco Y Negro Mix.
The greatest satisfaction at that time, though, Tomy says was when we
got set as Essential new tune of the week on Pete Tong’s celebrated
Essential selection radio show.
After parting ways with Zox, Tomy felt that it was time to take a break
from a demanding life of producer and performer, before he went on to start his solo career.
Searching for genuine underground sound that could revive the authentic feeling of electronic dance music he experienced in his youth Tomy turned to Valentino Kanzyani’s Jesus Loved You label in 2008, releasing a much praised single ‘I Don’t Know’ and soon after that, things just opened for him on a much wider scale.
Just two years later in 2010, his first solo EP entitled ‘Learn To Play / Hard Softness’ was signed by no one else than Carl Cox and Jon Rundell for their Intec imprint. Loyalty to the label in the following years with many releases, lead him to open a stage at the mighty Gashouder in Amsterdam for the Pure Intec event and more over to his debut performance at the Awakenings Festival in July 2018.
No doubt these first ten years were full of experiences and full of personal growth as a person and as an artist. Two Mexican tours, lost bags with the connection flights, crazy train ride in the Balkans, never ending road trips throughout Europe, superb venues in Belgium, Germany, Spain, Austria, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, Uk, Switzerland, Slovakia, unforgettable memories from South Africa and a unique opportunity to work for few years as a resident in a legendary club Ambasada Gavioli.
Driven by his unstoppable passion for teamwork, he works with various musicians, local drummer Dave Morgan, a multi instrumentalist KayKay, singers, percussionists and other talents. Thinking out of the box and always pushing himself to go over boundaries and never limit his creativity when it comes to musical genres, got him a new challenge. He wrote and produced a song with a talented singer Lea Sirk, who won EMA, a leading national competition to represent Slovenia at the Eurosong 2018.
As a industry experienced player, Tomy DeClerque has accomplished a lot. But he is determined to accomplish even more. You’ll hear a lot about me in the future, he promises.
After being interested in all sorts of music since a very young age, Ilija Djokovic soon realized that electronic music was where his heart is truly at.
As an artist whose profile has rapidly expanded from Serbia’s techno realm, Ilija Djokovic has earned support from Adam Beyer, Maceo Plex and Tale of Us and lots more since delving into DJing and production in 2010. Multiple releases on Drumcode, Filth on Acid and Terminal M undoubtedly boosted his credibility and booking schedule in the last number of months, earning him the status as one of the Balkan’s most prominent artists.
Djokovic has worked with some of the most notable names on the scene with the likes of Paul Kalkbrenner, Nina Kraviz, Pan-Pot, Solomun, Reinier Zonneveld and Loco Dice among others.
